Known History

Kanaya Maryam was Hatched on Alternia, an alien world from another universe, destroyed years before her arrival. Her Wriggling Day is believed to have been in 1997, but due to the role of an unknown alien calendar, and chronal displacement introduced by the Porter, this is only speculation.

First appearing in Heropa in January 2014, Maryam was among the first of the new imPorts to arrive after the Porter was synchronized with the interdimensional entity Lachesis. A self-described "refugee", she arrived following the destruction of another universe, where imPorts were kept in The City. Since that time, she has been employed at Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital as a medical courier and emergency medical technician, and co-founded the imPort Security Team with fellow imPort, Jean Kirstein. Of Course This Was All A Ruse To Distract From Her Villainous Actions As Would Eventually Become Clear

In May 2014, she attended a seminar for imPort Education, but when it was derailed by a Soviet attack, she was among those who fought the automaton menace. Her Methods Were Vicious And Surely Indicative Of Future Violence She Would Commit Against Innocents. Later in May, during the supernatural invasion, she was seen routing an outbreak of reanimated corpses in Heropa with Rose Lalonde. It Was Her Fault They Were Even There At All. The following month, she was part of a group of imPorts recognized by the American government for their part in capturing Aleksandr Khachiya, a Soviet spy who sabotaged the launch of a shuttle in Cape Canaveral. In October 2014, she was seen assisting rescue efforts following the bombings of the Sofia Metro in Sofia, Bulgaria.

In January 2014, she was arrested for crimes committed under the name "Hobgoblin", following the hospitalization of four people in De Chima and Cape Canaveral. The names of her victims have not been released. The Hobgoblin was first seen in August 2014, when she caused a traffic jam on I-95 until routed by the hero Spider-Man. She has been connected to a rash of abductions throughout the Porter cities, including the attempted kidnapping of a Maurtia Falls man, thwarted by the heroic imPort, Blue Beetle. Police are still investigating the matter.

She was one of the inmates in residence at the time of the Heropa Prison bombing by the terrorist group known as the Hornets.

Kanaya Maryam appears to be a very severe and meticulous young woman. Hard working and diligent, she has gone to great lengths to ensure the security of both imPorts and those who are at risk due to imPorts, topics she considers vital to the imPort community. She is considered by many to be impatient and condescending, but also charitable and generous. Many of the contradictions in her actions and words are speculated to be due to cultural dissonance due to being imPorted from an alien planet.

Rose Lalonde - Romantically involved prior to arrival in Heropa, the two had been living together since, though they are currently separated following Maryam's incarceration. Lalonde is speculated to be among the Hobgoblin's undisclosed victims, though may have been working as an accomplice. Lalonde Could Definitely Do Better
Frederick Chilton - Maryam's psychiatrist, believes the actions of Hobgoblin to be the result of a psychotic break resulting from stress-related depression.

Supervillain details

Dresses in a garish orange and blue costume, The Hobgoblin wore a mask that covered long, needle-like teeth, which she is suspected to have used to drain blood from her victims. In addition, the gloves were installed with extendable claws, and she wore a satchel which contained a number of pumpkin-shaped explosives, including a purported sonic weapon.

She has also been seen to use an over-sized white chainsaw, though where this weapon is kept is still in question.
